Post Subject: Battery

Hi there, I've got this large battery with no label on. How I determine what Ah rating it has? It's 50cm long, 20cm tall and 22cm wide. I'm hoping to integrate it, wired in parallel, with an existing 225Ah battery. Does it have to have the same Ah rating or if the battery turned out to be, say 140Ah, would that be ok?

Post Subject: Battery

Unless you have the equipment to fully charge the battery and then discharge it using a known load over a measured time then I know of no way of finding the battery's capacity. In any case it has probably lost capacity as it aged. You can mix batteries of different capacities but please be aware that one faulty battery may cause damage to others in a bank under certain circumstances so test the old one regularly so you can replace it before it totally fails.
