Post Subject: old stern gear

Hello Tony, thank you for your reply. The reason he wanted only the 2 mounting stuffing box was that he said the new 4 mounting type would not be able to screw onto the stern tube as the threads are of different type.Probably imperial to metric, this being the case then it will be a big job next time, fitting new tube and stuffing box.Hence the question if only a 2 mounting box was still available. Many thanks Tony.Nick

You have still not told me why he thinks you need a new stuffing box but I have found this http://www.sillette.co.uk/pdf/sillette_marine_pr opulsion_catalogue.pdf. A two hole stern gland. Also have a look on the ASAP Supplies site. They list a solid stud type gland (they call it an inboard bearing) and say "advise mounting flange details ....... and end threads per inch required". I think what you have been told you want is available but for some reason the engineer prefers you to buy a complete new assembly - I wonder why? Tony Brooks
