Post Subject: Mushroom vents

HI Tony, Could you please tell me what seal is normally used to seal the mushroom vents on narrowboat roofs? I want to paint the roof and intend to remove them prior to doing the job. I also have a bit of rust forming around a couple of them. Thanks. Regards Steve

You could cut your own gasket from sheet closed cell "rubber" foam (probably neoprene) or use a sealer like Sikaflex. I note Screwfix now sells an adhesive/sealer that they say is used for caravans. This may be cheaper than a branded product. I suspect you would have problems bending the foam window seal strips around a mushroom vent. Tony Brooks
