Post Subject: Mushroom vent sealing

We are planning to remove the mushroom vents on our boat to repair the surface rust around (& under?) them. How can we effectively reseal the vents to the roof?

I copy the answer I gave to this question in July. You could cut your own gasket from sheet closed cell "rubber" foam (probably neoprene) or use a sealer like Sikaflex. I note Screwfix now sells an adhesive/sealer that they say is used for caravans. This may be cheaper than a branded product. I suspect you would have problems bending the foam window seal strips around a mushroom vent. Tony Brooks

if you mean to seal the hole left while the mushroom is removed then i suggest just wrapping a plastic round them with some tape or a couple of elastic bands. ive seen lots of fitouts do it with no problems
