Barge pole
I bought mine form Uxbridge Boat Centre but I doubt they will do them mail order because of the length. Some people use pine banister rail but that has a much greater tendency to break with long shards of sharp wood that are ideal for doing serious damage to whoever is pushing on the pole. If you decide to use this option then any decent timber yard or builders' merchant should be able to supply - but I would not. An alternative is an aluminium scaffold pole caped and sealed at both ends so it floats. I hear that some scaffolders sell off slightly bent ones. Tony Brooks
