Is there any oranisation/umpire to refer to in the event of a unsatisfactory repaint of a narrowboat by a boat builder

If they are a direct member of or are a member of one of the associated groups then the British Marine Federation has an arbitration scheme (I think). The most likely associate group would be the CBA (Canal Boat Builders Associating) but there are others. Failing that I fear your courses of action rest with Citizens Advice (now acting for Consumer Protection), a solicitor, or paying a consultant (and don't ask me how to find one because I could not when in a similar position) and then a solicitor. I fear that whatever you are able to do this may well involve you with even more expense that you might not recoup. Tony Brooks
