Post Subject: water filter

Hi, do you have any experience with water filters? I am looking for a system that filters canal water in two stages. I know about drinking water filters, but I would also like a cruder pre-filter for non-drinking applications like washing machine, shower, etc. any help welcome.

Dear Otto All the filters normally available at the usual outlets seem to be designed for drinking water. I know one that says it will turn canal water into drinking water and there is a picture of our last editor actually drinking the output. However I do not think any of these filters would have either the volume or element life for your purposes I have Googled "industrial Water Filter" and found a few hits that might provide the basis of a system, but I think such a system will be bulky & heavy. I also suspect that canal water will often have a very high particle content that will shorten any filter's service intervals. Lastly before you spend too much please make sure that things like the Weill's disease pathogen will be totally removed. NHS Direct report this not uncommon canal water born disease has up to a 40% fatality rate so be sure. Tony Brooks

Hi Otto, My company is Osmio Water and we specilise in water filtration and treatment. We have put together a system for canal boats which will enable you to draw water from the canal itself for use inb both drinking requirements and non drinking. The basic system for non drinking consists of two pleated cartridges, a third silver impregnated granular activated carbon filter and lastly a specialist hydrocarbon oil-out filter. Ti make the water then drinkable we would use a UV steraliser system. We also have a storage tank treatment system which is an immersible treatment unit, great for your storage tank. You can find more details here: http://www.osmiowater.co.uk/canal-w ater-treatment-system-or-canal-boats-or-narrowbo ats.html Please feel free to ask any and all of your questions. Best wishes, Mark www.osmiowater.co.uk 0 800 002 9533
