Post Subject: Canal/River Licence

Sir, I live out of UK,but am buying a canal boat which is in a marina (not a BW marina) I intend to use the boat for about a 3 monthly period, Spring/Sumer,only each year. Question can I buy a licence for only that period I am useing it or will I have to take out a full year?

Take a look at the Canal and River Trust website. It should provide the answer.

Do as Favours says (waterscape.com I think) but you also need to consider the navigation authority the marina has connection with. If the marina is on Environment Agency waters you need to check that particular navigation area's license conditions. For instance The Thames EA navigation issues a variety of short term licenses so you could use two of those to get onto CaRT and off again. The Fens may be different, as may the Bridgewater Canal Company. If you are on the Cam you have to face the Cam commissioner's license as well. I need to know more detail before I can give sensible advice. I can tell you that Gold licenses that cover all CaRT and EA licenses only run for a full year. Tony Brooks.
