Post Subject: PRV Problems

We have a Jabsco Par Max 4 pump and the accumulator is set to just below 20psi as per Jabsco instructions, which works fine accept when we draw hot water off after its been heated in the calorifier. The PRV seems to open and vibrate the whole tank and doesn't stop for a while or until you manually open it. Why?

Post Subject: PRV Problems

First of all it probably has nothing to do with the accumulator. From the pressure setting you gave it suggests that your pump is set to cut out at about 40 psi. The PRV is often set at 2 bar (31 psi). The actual setting should be marked on it. You need to ensure that the pump cuts out several psi BELOW the PRV opening pressure. I think the two are so close on your boat it is setting up pressure waves in the system causing the valve to bounce. There should be an adjusting screw in the end of the pump but it may be under a label saying touching it invalidates the guaranty. Tony Brooks
