can anyone suggest a good fire board to go round a solid fuel stove to protect the wood on boat

Dear Darren There are a number of suitable boards that replace cement asbestos boards and any builders' merchant should be able to tell you which one they supply. Some chandlers also sell it as do B&Q in smaller sizes. Asbestolux and Masterboard are two names that pop into my mind. It tends to be fairly soft and white so it needs protecting. I think most people seal it (diluted PVA will do) and then tile on top. Try to ensure it either has an air-gap behind it or something like rockwool to provide greater thermal insulation to protect any wood. Tony Brooks
