Post Subject: 12v or 240v TV?

Hello experts - is it better/more or less efficient to use a 12v TV or run a 240V TV through an inverter. Michael Newton

That rather depends upon what type of TVs you are talking about. A CRT 12V TV will almost certainly draw more current than a 240 volt LED TV plus inverter. A 12V LCD TV might draw more current than a 240 volt TV plus inverter. A 12V led TV will draw less current than a 240V TV plus inverter. However 12V TVs may not be available in the size you want. Be wary of running "mains" TVs that use a plug mounted transformer/rectifier to give 12V DC direct coupled to the boat's electrical system. Voltage surges caused by other equipment on the boat MIGHT damage such a TV over time. In any case all such proposals as this should initiate a power and charging audit. A mains TV running on a shoreline will cause less potential problems than a 12V TV running from the batteries. TB

I'd recommend avtex. They run off 12v but in addition can be 240v mains powered if needed. I bought mine from here and prior to buying i spoke with their specialist who was very knowledgeable. https://www.capitaloutdoor s.co.uk/collections/12v-television-and-accessori es
