Post Subject: Lister control panel

I've just got a NB which runs a Lister engine. Type LPWS4. Engine No 00068731LPW4A047. All the warning lights on the control panel are broken. The rev counter seams to be working ok. Can you tell me 1. Were to get a replacement or someone that will make one up and what are the warning lights? Thanks.

Please what do you mean by broken. Are they not working or are the lenses smashed. If they are intact but not working you might only need new bulbs but on an unknown boat there could just as well be wiring issues or other electrical faults. You should be able to change the lamps, try looking at the Vehicle Wring Products or ASAP supplies website. If you want genuine Lister parts try MES Midlands or any other Lister Agents. You do not say how many lamps and often engines come with the option of either a basic or deluxe control panel so the engine number does not help. The two you can be sure about are a red charge warning lamp. This one is usually vital in starting the alternator charging. A yellow or green oil pressure warning lamp and possibly an overheat warning lamp. There may be an additional tunnel lamp warning lamp as well. I would also expect a warning buzzer whenever any warning lamp apart from a tunnel lamp one was on.

Thanks for the reply. The lenses on the panel are smashed. 5 slots but it looks like only 4 are in use. The first one is working and looks like the red charging light. I was just wondering if someone could tell me what the other ones were to save me tracing the wires back. The panel is showing its age,so I would be inn the market for a new one.

For the cost of the lamps it would be worth simply fitting new lams and then turn the ignition on. If the wiring and senders are OK, which is far from sure, then at least two or three should light up. If you then pull a wire off the senders/switche sin turn you will soon see which lamp goes out. If you have five holes then some are not for engine monitoring. The three for engine monitoring are charge, oil pressure and overheat. The other two are likely to be tunnel lamp and bilge pump on. However those may or may not have been wired by the boat fitters. They would not be wired by Lister. I suggested you contact MES (Midlands) - mes-midlands.co.uk/ who are Lister specialists. They should be able to supply you a manual so you KNOW what the lamps are for. If your waning lamps are rectangular then you may well have difficulty finding replacements but round ones should be easy. I hope other readers with same engine will help but as they have not so far I would not hold my breath.
