Post Subject: BMC 2.5L engine spares

Hi, I have a BMC 2.5L which was installed new in our boat in 1980 by the boat's original owners. The cast aluminium bell housing plate on the stern on the engine has cracked through completely on one corner, so the engine is no longer secured by four points to the hull. Can anybody offer any advice on where to source a spare? I've emailed Calcutt Boats boat not had any response for 3 weeks. Any pother siggestions most welcome. Many thanks, Tim

Post Subject: BMC 2.5L engine spares

I very much doubt Calcutt can help because they specialise in the 1.5 and 1.8. A major problem you have is that the engines were marinised by a number of outfits so I doubt its a standard part. When I was on the hire fleet we marinised the 2.2s and we ha dour own wooden patterns for the bell housings and had them cast for us. At one time I would have suggested ASAP supplies but they do not list the housing on their website. I have as feeling that you are going to need to find an aluminium welder and have yours welded and possibly strengthened. I think this company lists a housing but if it is identical to yours I have no idea. https://www.lancingmarine.com/pricebook2017.pdf
