Post Subject: water line in weed hatchhi there, could you help me? We have a new sailaway that we are currently finishing ourselves and we have been told by a boat safety examiner that the water level in the weed hatch, for a hire boat should be 10 inches from the top of the hatch down to the water but as ours is a private boat we should be at 8 inches or there abouts. we have checked the distance in the hatch which currently is a minimum of 3 1/2 inches this is with the fuel tank full and the water level on the outside of the boat is half way up the first d-bar, the d-bar nearest the water. do we need to lift the back of the boat up to drop the water level in the weed hatch nearer a safer level, or is this level fine, at the moment we only have 4 1/2 inches to play with before the underside of the swim is just touching the top of the water. also the boat seems a bit high at the front, could we put some more ballast in the front to lift the back, would this work or do we need to take ballst out of the back. your advice would be appreciated, thank you.
