Post Subject: non invasive diesel fuel level indicator

Does anyone know of a non invasive diesel fuel level indicator that would work on a narrowboat?

Dear Clive, I have seen strips of liquid crystals that you stick on the outside of a tank that change colour with temperature. There is often a temperature difference between the fuel and the air so the point at which they change colour shows the fuel level. However if the boat ha sbeen standing for a week there may not be a sufficient temperature difference. I have not seen any for a number of years but have a look at this: http://www.tek-tanks.com/senders_gauges/digital. html (all on one line). There are also "single small hole" gauges such as those supplied by Mid service Centre 0121-354-5552.
