Post Subject: Cable

Dear Timothy, Boats should use tinned cables but many/most inland boats seem to use ordinary "automotive" type plain copper cables so you could try asking your local Motor Factors about price. If you order enough you will probably get some form of discount. The BSS requires you to use multi-strand cables and there is a minimum number of strands (19 I think)so once you sort the conductor cross sectional area out you may find people like RSS (was Radio Spares) & Electrovalue list suitable cables. Personally I find getting it locally a bit too much hassle and use Vehicle Wiring Products (2sq mm @ just over £15 per 50m drum) who do a very fast mail order, but they do not supply tinned cables.
