Post Subject: Water appearing around top bearing of Rudder shaft.

Hi Tony, Is it normal for water to come out of the top deck mounted bearing of the rudder shaft? This only occurs if I have need to use high power on turning or reverse the bow off an obstruction in the canal. The boat is 2 years old and has about 450 hours on the clock.

Dear Raymond, as long as this is a narrowboat then yes - perfectly normal. If it is really annoying there are things that can help but its a lot of messing about. I just wash the mud off the back a couple of times a week! Tony Brooks
