Post Subject: Cruise down the Bristol Channel Anyone?

Hey there! Wondering if anyone knows of a commercial skipper or transportation company that they would recommend? We have a 57" Widebeam that needs to be cruised/transported from the Glos and Sharpness to the K and A... and so its overland or a long cruise down the Bristol Channel...With gloves, hats and all... Any recommendations? Does anyone have any advice about cost/time considerations comparing the overland option or cruising her? Please help!!!xxx

If this is a wide beam "narrowboat" my feeling is that it may be a bit late to try via the Severn for this year. If its a more seaworthy hull form then perhaps you might still be OK. If you go by sea you would be very well advised to book a Pilot who will ensure you do not try during unsafe conditions. For initial contact try: Bristol Pilots Partnership Haven Masters Building, Avonmouth Dock, Bristol, Avon BS11 9AT Tel: 0117 982 3081 who apparently deal direct with leisure craft under 30m in length. I understand that typically it takes 24 hours with an overnight stop around the mouth of the Avon to do the water route. Otherwise look for transport companies in the back of the magazines and ask for a quote. Tony Brooks
