Post Subject: Flame failure hob?

Hi Tony, I'm looking to fit a new 2 ring gas hob on my narrowboat. Can I fit one with no flame failure device, but instead a pressure detection device, or will I need to fork out a bit more for one fitted with a flame failure device? Cheers, Ben

Post Subject: Flame failure hob?

Dear Ben, the regulations for private holiday boats and hire/livaboard boats differ in who is allowed to carry out gas-work so I must advise you to contact the BSS or download their guide if it is a private holiday boat or a Gassafe engineer if it is a hire or livaboard boat. The BSS talks about "flame supervision devices" not flame failure devices but I fail to see how a pressure detection device can tell the difference between gas leaving a burner and being burnt and gas just leaving the burner and filling the boat with gas. I would not be trying to save a few quid on gas safety items. Tony Brooks
