Post Subject: delay between turning taps on and pump engaging

hi, after the cold weather there is a delay between turning taps, showers and flush on the toilet and hearing the pump come on, Sometimes we have to switch the tap on and off a couple of times to get the pump to come on. any help /advice would be helpful...thanks ken

The pump is turned on and off by a pressure switch that is normally mounted on the end of the pump. As the problem seems to be related to all your outlets we can probably discount a stuck washer in the tap so as long as the water has stopped or virtually stopped flowing from the outlet we can probably blame the pressure switch. However as the system has been standing over the winter check for loose and corroded electrical connections. The switches can usually be dismantles but they are not the most reliable of things so I always fit an external pressure switch. Any decent chandler should stock them. Otherwise a new pump would cure it. Tony Brooks
