Post Subject: Bowthruster batteries

A swift calculation shows that 6hp on a 12v system at 100% efficiency will draw 373 amps. If we assume a 33% inefficiency we get a draw of about 500 amps so you will want a fairly beefy bank and at that sort of discharge I would use starting batteries. Unless you tell me what limitations you will place on its operation and a good deal else beside i can not even guess at an answer so the best thing to do is to consult the manual or the technical department of your supplier. Whilst trying to find the Nobel site (I failed!) I came across this which may be of some help. http://www.yachtingmonthly.com/plus/409962/bow-t hruster-battery. Halve those currents for 24V.
