Post Subject: altenator

I have Vetus M4.17. In an effort to improve the charge rate from the alternator I have fitted a Sterling controller. While this does work after a fashion the problem is that a canal speeds, 1000 - 1100 RPM the alternator doesn't do much and must be revved to about 1500 to get a good charge. I hope to increase the size of the engine pulley to improve the speed of the alternator but I understand that the rev counter is driven from the alternator which will make it read high. Is this correct and is there a solution? Looking forward to your help, RegardsinsBob Hawk
