Post Subject: long term rental

is it possible to rent a narrowboat longterm, say for min 3 mths max 12 mths. Are wanting to buy a boat, but thought a long term rental would be best to start with, so we know for sure its for us, before we outlay £60,000.

Post Subject: long term rental

First of all I must advise you to take great care if you do any sort of internet search for long term hire/rental. There are sites that appear to specialise in this type of thing but reports I have seen indicate that one or more might not be all it seems. I know at least one of the smaller hire fleets say "there is always a deal to be done" so it must be worth contacting some to see what they say. I would expect you to get a very favourable rate but as peak season they would expect to get over £1000 a week for a boat do not expect it to be cheap. Even at an average of half that a year's hire will still cost £26000 so it makes buying a cheap secondhand boat with intentions of selling it later a distinct possibility. All the best in your search. Tony Brooks
